VINYL AFTERCARE

VINYL WRAP AFTERCARE GUIDE

Thank you for choosing BlackLine Signs. Proper care and maintenance of your vinyl wrap will help ensure it looks its best and performs as intended for years to come. Please read and follow the recommendations below.

IMMEDIATE AFTERCARE

To achieve the best possible adhesion and finish, please allow the vinyl wrap sufficient time to cure following installation.

For the first 5 days after installation:

  • Do not wash the vehicle.

  • Avoid heavy rain where possible.

  • Do not use pressure washers or automatic car washes.

  • Avoid abrasive conditions such as off-road driving or exposure to excessive dirt and debris.

  • If dust or light dirt accumulates, gently wipe the surface using a clean, soft microfiber cloth.

Allowing the adhesive to fully cure during this period helps ensure maximum bond strength and long-term durability.

ROUTINE CLEANING & MAINTENANCE

Regular cleaning will help maintain the appearance and lifespan of your vinyl wrap.

How often should I clean my wrapped vehicle?

BlackLine Signs recommends washing your vehicle approximately once per week, or more frequently if exposed to harsh environmental conditions. Regular cleaning prevents the build-up of dirt, road grime, pollutants, and contaminants that may affect the wrap's appearance over time.

Recommended Washing Method

For best results:

  • Hand wash using a soft microfiber wash mitt or sponge.

  • Use a mild automotive shampoo that is safe for vinyl wraps.

  • Wash with clean, lukewarm water.

  • Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue.

  • Dry immediately using a clean microfiber towel to prevent water spotting.

Automatic Car Washes

  • Brushless automatic car washes may be used where necessary.

  • Avoid any car wash that uses rotating brushes, bristles, or abrasive cleaning equipment, as these may damage the wrap surface.

Pressure Washing

Pressure washing is generally not recommended. If pressure washing is necessary:

  • Maintain a minimum distance of 1 metre (3 feet) from the vehicle surface.

  • Use a wide spray angle of 40 degrees or greater.

  • Never direct high-pressure water toward wrap edges, seams, joins, or corners.

  • Avoid prolonged pressure in one area.

Improper pressure washing may cause lifting, peeling, or damage to the vinyl.

FINISH-SPECIFIC CARE

Satin & Matte Finishes

  • Do not apply wax, polish, cutting compounds, or gloss-enhancing products.

  • Use cleaning products specifically formulated for matte or satin vinyl wraps.

  • Avoid products that may create uneven shine or alter the finish.

Gloss Finishes

  • Wrap-safe detail sprays and synthetic sealants may be used to enhance protection and appearance.

  • Avoid abrasive polishes, cutting compounds, or harsh chemicals.

ADDITIONAL CARE TIPS

To maximise the life of your wrap:

  • Park under cover or in shaded areas whenever possible.

  • Minimise prolonged exposure to harsh UV conditions.

  • Remove bird droppings, insect residue, tree sap, fuel spills, and other contaminants as soon as possible.

  • Do not scrape the wrap with hard tools or sharp objects.

  • Avoid using harsh solvents, degreasers, or chemical cleaners unless approved for vinyl wraps.

  • Exercise caution around edges and seams when cleaning.

WRAP LONGEVITY

The lifespan of a vinyl wrap can vary depending on environmental conditions, vehicle usage, maintenance practices, and exposure to sunlight. Following this aftercare guide will help maximise the performance, appearance, and longevity of your investment.
